A wide range of engines was presented at the choice of Skoda Fabia 2 buyers: gasoline - MPI 1.2 (60-70 hp), 1.4 (86 hp) and 1.6 (105 hp), TSI 1.2 (105 hp) s.) 1.4 (180 hp), as well as four TDI diesels - 1.2, 1.4, 1.6 and 1.9. Gasoline engines are representatives of the EA111 series. The three-cylinder HTP engine (BBM, CHFA, CHTA, BZG, CEVA, CGPA, CJLA), although weak, is very common in the aftermarket.
Of the main weaknesses of the engine, it is worth highlighting the short resource of the timing chain and the unsuccessful design of the tensioner, which can cause a fatal meeting of pistons with valves. Fuel injectors and ignition coils are not famous for their reliability, the resource of which is significantly reduced when using low-quality gasoline.
Valve burnout is also considered a common phenomenon - it leads to a decrease in compression in the cylinders (the disease manifests itself after 100,000 km of run). In addition, this engine has not entirely successful piston rings, the wear of which leads to a progressive increase in oil consumption. An unstable idling caused by coking of the crankcase ventilation or throttle is also considered a common occurrence.
The atmospheric engine 1.4 (CGGB, BXW) is considered the most successful in the line and bothers only over trifles. The main complaints about this engine are caused by the short service life of the ignition elements (coils, candles).
The second most popular problem is unstable idle due to severe contamination of the throttle assembly or EGR. For cars with a mileage of more than 150,000 km, hydraulic lifters may require replacement (they start knocking) and oil consumption increases (it is treated by replacing the valve stem seals).
Often, overheating of the engine leads to the appearance of an oil burner. The timing drive of this motor uses a belt that can withstand 90,000 km. The resource of the piston group is about 300,000 km. This motor is considered disposable, since initially there were no regular sizes of pistons and piston rings for it, plus there are nuances in the reassembly process. To date, there are enough services that do an excellent job of restoring the engine.
Diesel engines. It is worth recognizing that VAG diesel engines are not bad, but are more sensitive to the quality of lubrication than similar engines of other brands. The exactingness to the quality of the oil is due to the peculiarities of the pump-injector drive.
These engines did not bypass the troubles typical of diesel engines, such as the rapid failure of fuel injectors, high pressure fuel pumps, EGR and particulate filters. For engines 1.4 and 1.6, in addition to the ailments mentioned above, it regularly drives grease from under the plastic valve cover. In a 1.9-liter engine, the geometry of the turbine (wedge) often fails, and saving on oil leads to wear of the camshaft cams and hydraulic lifters.
