The EA888 engine series is one of the most common. To date, there are already three generations of these engines. These are engines with an engine capacity of 1.8-2 liters equipped with a direct fuel injection system and a turbocharger. Depending on the model of the car, they can have a longitudinal and transverse arrangement.
In addition to the prevalence of this series can be described as the most problematic. If the problem of carbon formation is inherent in any engine with direct fuel injection, then in this series, the problems of a timing chain drive, variable intake manifold geometry, coolant pump, oil starvation, etc. are added to it. The list of problems can be listed indefinitely, the main problem is increased oil consumption.
According to factory standards, the consumption should not exceed 0.5 liters per thousand kilometers, but in most cases the consumption is several times higher than the norms set by the manufacturer. Many associate it with the poor quality of dealer oil, while changing the oil manufacturer in the vast majority of cases does not solve the problem. Some are trying to upgrade the regular oil separator, I personally consider this to be self-deception.
The very problem of increased oil consumption began to emerge with the advent of the second generation of these engines. And to be more precise, with the transition of the manufacturer to a new design of oil scraper rings. Accordingly, the first solution to the problem proposed by the manufacturer was simple - installing first-generation pistons on second-generation engines.
The CDAB engine is the most popular representative of the EA888 series motors.
