Skoda Octavia has always sold well, and after a generational change, it finally established itself in the status of a bestseller. The equipment has become even better, the huge trunk has been preserved, and reliability, as it turned out, has increased. Some problems persisted, but on the whole they lost their sharpness. Here are the most significant ones.
1. Paint chips
The Octavia A7 does not shed as much as the previous generation A5, but perhaps this is simply a consequence of the still younger age of the cars. In general, the paint is still not very tight on the body. And the problem areas are still the same - the thresholds, the bottom of the doors, wheel arches, the hood.
What to do
It is better to quickly tint chips before they grow into large spots, although rust on the body of the A7 generation is rare. And mudguards and a protective film will help protect you from chips.
2. Timing drive
A problematic place with which the VAG concern did a good job of fixing the bugs. And in some ways very cardinal: for example, in the new generation of 1.4 TFSI turbo engines, the chain was replaced with a belt. And on more powerful 1.8 TFSI engines, the timing drive was modernized - instead of the previous 50 thousand km, the chain lasts two to three times longer. But already by 100 thousand km, an error in the gas distribution phases may appear and, as a result, unstable operation of the engine at idle.
3. Oil consumption
Another long-standing malfunction that VAG is struggling with with varying degrees of success. The oil consumption of turbo engines after the modification of pistons, rings and the transition to combined fuel injection was generally won - the problem does not bother up to 150 thousand km. Owners of Octavius with a base 110-horsepower “aspirated” are now more likely to encounter increased oil appetite.
4. Thermostat
A node that does not have a high resource, regardless of the engine version. Already on a run of up to 100 thousand km, the thermostat can jam in one of the positions - open or (less often and more critically) closed.
5. Turbine valve
If the turbo engine suddenly stopped developing the usual power, most likely the turbine simply does not “blow” as it should. But this is not the fault of the turbocharger itself, its average resource is above 200 thousand km, but the boost pressure control valve, which refuses to work after 60-70 thousand.
Often such a malfunction occurs after a long stop - the valve "turns sour", and its mobility can be restored with a lubricant.
6. Injection system
If after 60-80 thousand kilometers the engine starts to run unevenly at idle or there is a hitch during acceleration, then the power system is most likely to blame: the engine does not receive the right portion of fuel.
To avoid interruptions in work, it is advisable to clean the fuel injectors every 60 thousand km.
7.DSG
The DSG robotic boxes have been upgraded many times, and the Octavia A7 has already received much more reliable versions of them. Especially the 6-speed with wet clutches, which is installed on all-wheel drive and diesel versions. Most of the cars sold have a 7-speed box with dry discs, and it may still need to be repaired closer to 100 thousand km.
And careful driving will help to delay the expensive operation as much as possible: DSG does not like abrupt starts and very slow driving in traffic jams when the clutch slips.
