Volkswagen Polo 4

The popular German car Polo with the Mk4 index began to be produced from 2001-2002. Volkswagen Polo IV survived restyling only once. It was discontinued in 2009. Unfortunately, it did not gain the popularity of the fifth generation, it was even named by Top Gear as one of the worst subcompacts, ahead of only the Rover 25 and Fiat Punto in the ranking. Maybe that's why the Mk4 did not hit the North American market. But interestingly, the car continues to actively buy so far.

Positioning

Volkswagen Polo 4 is built on the PQ24 platform - another name for the A04. It was preceded by the 3rd generation Polo, and was replaced on the conveyor by the Polo 5. It underwent serious revision in 2005 - only the hatchback was left, the sedan was removed. The car was produced in three body brands - 9N2 sedan, 9N1 hatchback and 9N3 after 2005. This is a compact, budget car. In the period 2001-2009, about 146,000 pieces were sold.

In South Africa, the 4th generation Polo began to be assembled in 2010. It is still produced in limited quantities under the name Vivo. It is also interesting that only in the 4th generation did the car begin to be called Cross. Before that it was known as Fun, Dun, Soho.

This is a typical representative of the European small B-class. There is constant competition in this segment, so high demands are placed on cars. At the same time, their price should not exceed a certain minimum.

small-volume gasoline units develop 55-70 liters. With. — are equipped only with a 5-speed manual transmission;

1.4-liter versions are more powerful by 5-10 liters. With. - in addition to mechanics, they are also equipped with a 4- or 6-speed automatic transmission;

gasoline engines of 1.6 and 1.8 liters produce 80-105 hp. With. - 5 manual transmissions are also installed here;

diesel units with a volume of 1.4 and 1.9 liters develop 75-130 liters. With. - equipped with 5- and 6-speed mechanics.

The trunk of the car is spacious. In a sedan, it holds 432 liters, and with the rear sofa folded down, the space increases to 1127 liters. The hatchback before restyling contained 249 liters, after - 270 liters.

The car of this generation was also produced in the CrossPolo version with an off-road body kit, sports roof rails, and increased ground clearance. However, due to the lack of all-wheel drive, the cross-country ability remained the same. But the charged versions of the GTI and GTI Cup Edition showed class. They reached speeds of 216 km/h (150 hp GTI) and 225 km/h (180 hp GTI Cup Edition), respectively. Up to a hundred were accelerated in just 7-8 seconds.
