Volkswagen T-Cross

The Volkswagen T-Cross is great for city trips, it successfully combines all the advantages of a small family hatchback and a higher crossover seating position. Large windows and a windshield provide good visibility ahead and to the sides, thick C-pillars make it a little difficult to maneuver in reverse, but given the small dimensions of the car, this is unlikely to be a serious problem, besides, all configurations except SE are equipped with rear parking sensors.

Soft suspension T-Cross makes pits and potholes almost invisible, the softest ride differ models with 17-inch wheels. The manual transmission does not raise any complaints, gear shifting is clear and pleasant. The robotic DSG is also quite good, although it can be slow at times in some situations.

On the track, the T-Cross is smooth, pluses include good visibility from the driver's seat and a lot of driver assistance systems as standard. All T-Cross are equipped with adaptive cruise control, Lane Keeping Assist and Blind Spot Assist. Like many compact crossovers like this, the T-Cross doesn't have the best noise isolation, which is noticeable at high speeds on the highway, but otherwise the T-Cross is comfortable for long trips and its seats are comfortable enough to keep you and your passengers comfortable on the trip. The base 94-horsepower engine doesn't pick up speed very well, so if you drive around the city a lot, the 109-horsepower engine is a better choice.

Given that the T-Cross was designed as a compact and practical urban crossover, it is surprisingly good on narrow winding roads. The crossover holds the road well and almost does not roll in corners, passengers do not have to worry about being seasick.

Engines and fuel consumption

The Volkswagen T-Cross is available with 94 or 109 hp turbocharged liter petrol engines. or with a 1.5-liter engine with 148 hp. As standard, all configurations have front-wheel drive. 94 hp engine available only with a five-speed manual transmission. This combination is able to accelerate the crossover to 100 km / h in 11.6 seconds. and claims to consume an average of 5.7 liters. per 100 km.

The 109-horsepower engine is offered with a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed DSG automatic. A car with a manual transmission accelerates to hundreds in 10.8 seconds. and consumes the same amount of fuel as a T-Cross with a 94-horsepower engine. The model with automatic transmission accelerates to hundreds more slowly - in 11.3 seconds. and consumes already 6.2 liters. per 100 km. According to these indicators, T-Cross is close to competitors in the face of SEAT Arona, Skoda Kamiq and Citroen C3 with gasoline engines.

Unlike the Renault Captur, which is available with several hybrid powertrains, the Volkswagen is only offered with petrol engines. Yet even with the most powerful 148-horsepower engine available (available in SEL and R-Line trim levels), the T-Cross remains economical. The average consumption of this motor is 6.0 liters. per 100 km. This engine is paired only with a seven-speed DSG automatic, and in this configuration, the crossover accelerates to hundreds in 8.5 seconds, which is faster than the Renault Captur and Citroen C3 Aircross with any of the available engines.
